Installation

• When can remarks be posted on my web site's pages ?

  Immediately after you install the corresponding JavaScript code. Consult our home page to obtain this code.

• How do I know when a visitor posts a remark ?

  You will need to create an account and verify you're the owner of a web site. At this point, you can activate email notifications for every remark posted on your web site.

• Are remarks saved even though I don't have an account ?

  Yes. As soon as you install the corresponding JavaScript code all remarks are saved. They are stored until you verify you're the owner of a web site, at which time you can manage them (e.g. edit or delete them).

• Who can manage my remarks ?

  Only user accounts that have verified they are the owners of a web site.

• How does web site verification take place ?

  Once you create an account and log in , you will be provided with a unique authorization hash (e.g.#34AV95B1VNKYU) that you'll need to place on your web site. Once we confirm you're capable of placing this unique authorization hash on your web site, you will be granted access to your web site's remarks.

• Can I manage multiple web sites/domains from the same account ?

  Yes. You can manage any number of web sites/domains from the same account. You only need to verify you're the rightful owner for each one.

• Can I manage multiple web sites/domains and still use the free service option ?

  Yes. As long as your account has less than 25 active pages -- irrespective of the number of web sites/domains -- you can continue to use the free service option. Consult our Costs FAQ for what constitutes an active page and details on our $4.95 and $9.95 monthly service plans.

Technology

• What technology do you use to power Remark box?

  Its primarily JavaScript -- running on your site's pages -- which then allows remarks to be posted to our servers.

• Why is your JavaScript code built on top of the Yahoo! User Interface Library (YUI) ?

  Due to its reliability, speed and licensing. We really didn't want to 'reinvent the wheel' with another JavaScript library, YUI was perfectly suited to our needs and had a flexible licensing scheme for our service. The decision was also based on continuity, since Yahoo uses this same library for their web development, future enhancements (e.g. security patches, updates ) are guaranteed, keeping our overhead low and ensuring our service's costs are kept in check.

• What data storage technology do you use to store remarks ?

  Google's Big Table

• Why use Google's Big Table ?

  Due to its reliability and scalability characteristics. Even though RDBMS technology is proven for web applications, Google's Big Table was perfectly suited to our service's potential demand. The decision was also based on continuity, since Google offers Big Table services, maintenance and future enhancements (e.g. security patches, updates ) are guaranteed, keeping our overhead low and ensuring our service's costs are kept in check.

Costs

• Is the service you offer really FREE ?

  Yes. For 25 or less active pages per account the service is absolutely free.

• What do you mean by active pages ?

  An active page is a page which has a remark posted by a visitor. If there are no remarks posted by a visitor on a page, this page does not count toward an account's active pages.

  This means you can install Remark box on a web site with 100's or 1000's pages and so long as an account has 25 or less active pages, the service is absolutely free.

  By the same token, if you constantly delete remarks made on pages, this will also help keep your account's active page count low and take advantage of the free service option.

• What does the service cost for a larger amount of active pages ?

  $4.95 (U.S) a month from 26 up to 99 active pages and $9.95 (U.S) a month from 100 up to 200 active pages.

• Is that $4.95 and $9.95?

  Yes, four dollars and ninety five cents a month and nine dollars and ninety five cents a month.

• Are you sure you won't lose my remarks or shut the site down unexpectedly at these prices ?

  Rest assured. Really, we just save and serve your remarks, not your entire website. If no one posts remarks through Remark box on your pages, it costs us little. This is why we can afford to offer free service to accounts with low active page counts.

• What if I want to manage remarks for more than 200 active web pages ?

Security and privacy

• Are my remarks kept private ?

  Yes. Only accounts that have verified they are the rightful owners of a web site can manage remarks.

• Are my remarks secure from hackers ?

  Yes. Our service runs on data storage technology managed by Google, meaning the underlying infrastructure is kept up to date by personnel at this company. In addition, we've performed exhaustive testing on our own application code to ensure it's not exploitable by rogue users.
